The veterans cricket community was greatly saddened by the passing of Life Member, Peter White after a long health battle. Peter’s 30-year contribution to Veterans Cricket is beyond comparison.
Following a playing career at Hawthorn East Melbourne, Peter played at the Eley Park Cricket Club where his outstanding administration talents saw him Secretary and President and honoured with Life Membership of his Club.
In the late 1990’s Peter initiated Veterans Cricket in the BHRDCA, single-handedly overseeing the growth for over 40-year old’s and then over 50-year old’s cricket. He dedicated his life to establishing Veterans Cricket to players in the Eastern Suburbs until under his stewardship the creation of the Over 50’s competition in the state-wide Veterans Cricket Victoria (VCV).
His contribution to the BHRDCA spanned three decades serving terms as Junior Coordinator and Secretary as well as being the Veteran’s Coordinator for over 20 seasons. Peter’s humble, inclusive and measured approach was appreciated by all in the cricketing fraternity. He was honoured with Life Membership of the BHRDCA in 2011.
With the formation of the VCV, he led the charge for a national presence at the Veterans Cricket Australia table, contributing greatly to Victoria’s role in the fastest growing demographic in the game today. He was awarded Life Membership of VCV in 2019.
His commitment and dedication to community cricket, its Associations, clubs and people is without peer. Rest in Peace Peter.
